A system of systems approach with over 15 years' experience through the Scorpion programme

Mission

"Create a collaborative System of Systems"
According to Mark W. Maier, a SoS (System of Systems) is a set of interconnected autonomous systems coordinated to achieve a capability that the systems could not accomplish on their own.
  • Operational independence
Each system can be used individually
  • Managerial independence
The component systems are acquired and integrated separately, and maintained by different organisations
  • Evolutionary development
The composition of the SoS is not set in stone: it evolves as its components are added, removed or modified.
  • Emergent behaviour
The SoS capabilities exceed the sum of the capabilities of its component systems
  • Geographical distribution
The SoS component systems are not all co-located.

Algorithmic innovation for collaborative combat

Analysis, selection and development of innovations for the SCORPION connected land collaborative combat programme.

tns-MARS is looking for project leaders whose innovations can be included in the HYPERION programme

At the core of collaborative combat

Support and finance an ecosystem dedicated to the technological readiness of software bricks and AI-based algorithms designed to enrich the Collaborative Combat of the future.

Every year, a number of projects - led by both civil and military partners - receive funding for periods of four months to two years, and are assessed by tns-MARS. They address the following areas:

  • Collaborative protection
  • Collaborative aggression
  • Collaborative observation
  • Or cross-cutting functions of collaborative combat

Unique expertise in collaborative combat

2005

In 2005, Thales, KNDS and Safran began working together on the BOA (Air-Land Operational Bubble) demonstrator that came before the SCORPION programme

2010

This collaboration gave rise to the Joint Venture tns-MARS in 2010, which led the Architect contract for the SCORPION programme, followed by the Architect contract for the operational preparation system in 2015

2017

Since 2017, tns-MARS has consolidated its expertise through the AIS (Scorpion Integrator Architect) contract and confirmed its position as a System of systems architect within the framework of the SCORPION programme

2019

In parallel, from 2019 onwards, tns-MARS expanded its know-how with the OCB contract aimed at assessing Artificial Intelligence-based algorithms as applied to future collaborative combat

2023

The French defence procurement agency (DGA) entrusted tns-MARS with the HYPERION framework agreement, to identify, incubate and assess the software and AI innovations that will enrich the Collaborative Combat of the future

2024

Business focus was expanded to cover the entire scope of air-land collaborative combat

Who are we?

An autonomous JV formed by 3 key players in land Defence
  • A lean, agile, responsive and innovative structure to meet our customers' needs as effectively as possible.
  • A coherent approach, from system of systems engineering to the integration and validation of operational solutions, including the development of roadmap proposals.
  • A broad view of close combat constituents: vehicles (sensors, effectors), information systems and radios, robots and military supplies.
  • A capacity to work with all stakeholders in the European land-based defence industry.

Committed employees: a strong sense of team spirit, a culture of shared experience and knowledge transfer and a recognised sense of customer focus.
